Hoy / Today

ojo porque tú lo veas;
es ojo porque te ve.
Antonio Machado

Between 2009 and 2010, for a year straight I posted a photo on Filckr and Facebook every day, taken that same day. That experiment resulted in this project, which in 2011 was selected by the Montevideo CDF Photography Center to be exhibited in the Open Sky Gallery.

The eye you see is not
eye because you see it;
It is an eye because it sees you.
Antonio Machado
The universe presents itself to the human experience as an undifferentiated continuum. Since the invention of the camera, it was possible to «trim» part of that whole to contain it within the limits of a rectangle. Somehow, the new technique was one more instrument among the many created by man to bring order where before there was only chaos. Soon, the photographer became a demiurge who made visible to his peers what until then they were not able to glimpse; Photography had become art. Nacho Seimanas belongs to this lineage. For a year, day by day, he opened his eyes and went out to meet life. He was armed with his camera and his sensibility. Making use of them, each day, he captured a unique and unrepeatable moment that he later shared with anyone who wanted to see it on his website. Today we are facing the culmination of this work. Without gadgets, simply choosing a fragment of reality in the picture and pressing the trigger, Nacho recreates the world around us to return it transformed into beauty, which sometimes surprises, sometimes dazzles or excites, or all at once. Three hundred and sixty-five days, three hundred and sixty-five photos. When touring this exhibition, the spectator will be able to say, like Machado: «Better: live to see!».
